Notes: Texas A & M University Military History Series No. 61.  A Union victory in a small valley outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico.  The Confederates had won victory at Valverde in February, 1862, but were decimated logistically.  The same thing occurred at Glorieta, when the Union forces, under Col. John Chivington, destroyed the Confederate supply train.  The loss of those supplies was one of the major causes of their defeat at Glorieta.  The Confederate dreams of reaching the gold fields of Colorado went up in the smoke of battle.
