Notes: Pamphlet.  The Brand Book, Volume 46, No. 1, Winter 2012.  After a somewhat distinguished career as an officer of the law, Earp moved throughout the west, working as a prospector, saloon owner, gambler, prize fight referee, racehorse manager, and newspaper columnist.  Earp was enlisted as referee for a world championship bout between Bob Fitzsimmons and Tom Sharkey.   Sharkey, though losing,  was given the match, after Earp called Fitzsimmons for a foul below the belt.   Apparently no one but Earp saw the foul.  Did not make him popular.
