Notes: Pamphlet.  The Brand Book, Volume 45, Nos. 2 & 3.  Viola Clemmons  (“White Lily”) was the director and star of a traveling troupe of performers and Sioux Indians in England and Wales in the early 1890’s.  The show was funded by Buffalo Bill Cody (who was not in the show).  “The author of  White Lily clearly held a bleak opinion of the Mormons, since its principal rascals are drawn from the ranks of that church.  The plot device of a depradation committed by Mormons in the guise of Indians was a direct and–for those familiar with such events–transparent reference to the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857.” (page 10) (With a Indian name like “Wounded Knee” you would think the villains would be….)
