Condition: Book: Fair.  Binding tight.  No tears, bends, folds.  Binding slightly cocked.  Front board has what looks like a liquid stain, but it’s so oddly shaped I’m not sure if it’s a printer fault.  Very light edge and corner wear.  Dust Jacket: Fair.  NOT price clipped.  Mid-front cover worn, scuffed, causing the loss of some text (see photo above).  There are at least a half-dozen closed tears along the upper edge, front and rear.  Wear, wrinkling  to upper rear spine corner.  Smudging to lower rear cover corner at spine foot.  Edge and corner wear.  Now in mylar.

Notes:  A collection of Eugene Manlove Rhodes’ short stories, most originally published in magazines of the 1920s and 30s.  Hutchinson, the editor, was the executor of Rhodes’ estate.  Frank Dearing, in “The Best Novels and Stories of Eugene Manlove Rhodes” (University of Nebraska Press, 1987), quotes from a New York Times article, “Rhodes is the peer of Owen Wister in portraying the cowboy in his code, and often, though briefly and incidentally, the equal of such factual narrators as Andy Adams and Will James in presenting the mode of his working life. In variety and scope, he is the best of the four.”  Rhodes is credited with “inventing” the slogan “Land of Enchantment” to describe the state of New Mexico.
