Condition: Book: Good.  Binding tight.  No marks, tears, bends or folds.  Very light edge and corner wear.  The endpapers are a photomosaic of the Earth at night, contrasting the lights of civilization with the emptiness of the unihabited areas of the continents.  Dust Jacket: Fair.  NOT price clipped.  Some smudges to rear cover.  Light edge and corner wear.  The front flap has been used to mark the reader’s progress, so that flap edge is a tad larger than normal.

Notes: The title comes from Rudyard Kipling’s poem “Recessional”:

Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
Our current loss of biodiversity, the acceleration of climate change, increasing world population, rising consumption, political inequity, all point to a fate similar to Nineveh’s–their undoing was warfare, deforestation, unsustainable irrigation.  Nineveh is the small scale, Ehrilch, ever the pessimist, posits a potential global collapse.  BUT, the Ehrlichs also offer solutions, some practical (local), some that we won’t see in our lifetimes (international cooperation, population management).  From the library of the late environmentalist Dave Foreman.
