Notes: It’s not often you know the origin story of a book, but in this case the inscription tells the tale. “To Florence and Bob This book was inspired by the liver at breakfast in Wadi Halfa. Love, George and Pigpen.” Presumably, Armelagos is referring to Farb as “Pigpen”, but I could be wrong. Liver at breakfast. Yum. Understanding societies and cultures through eating. To paraphrase Wendell Berry, “If you don’t know where your food comes from you’re an industrial eater.”
