Notes: The Sand Creek Massacre occurred on the morning of Nov. 29, 1864, where elements of the U.S. Army and Colorado Volunteers killed about 230 Cheyenne and Arapaho men, women, and children.    Sand Creek Battlefield Documentation Project (1997) volume is primarily full-page, black-and-white photographs of the field participants, with several landscape photographs to identify the area, plus a map and a painting reproduction of the battle.  Aerial Archaeology at Sand Creek (1998), the second volume,  covers the investigation, by air, of a ten mile stretch of Sand Creek, with five days of fieldwork on the probable battlefield.  Since 1864, a number of factors have buried the probable battlefield and its artifacts, including wind and weather, farming, ranching, and the Dust Bowl.  SOLD AS A SET ONLY.  VERY RARE.  No other copies available for sale, and not held in a single library
