Notes:  Wood will be the last thing you think about with this volume.  Global “TREE”–U.S. Central America, India, New Zealand, China, Europe.  How trees age, eat, reproduce, talk to each other (okay, okay, I had my doubts as well).  Why are there trees?  And what else do we get from trees beside wood, nuts, rubber, maple sap, cork, fruits, shade?  Another of those single subject volumes that ends up covering everything from soup to nuts on that subject (think Oranges, by John McPhee).
