Notes: Book Club Edition. Perhaps the most unusual experiment in U.S. Army history–the use of camels to carry supplies through the desert southwest. On the face of it, not really a bad idea. Camels were used in battles against the Mohave and skirmishes against the Mormons, but never really became a viable transportation system. Scared the crap out of the Indians though.
