Condition:  Book: Fair.  Binding tight.  No tears, bends or folds.  There is an approx. 3″ stain  along the lower ffep, along with a second smaller stain at the lower corner.  I would almost say “tape” caused the stains, but I’m guessing.  Very light edge and corner wear.  Dust Jacket: Fair.  NOT price clipped.  One approx. 1/4″ square chip missing from front cover bottom edge.  Some chips, small tears to spine head and foot.  There’s an approx. 1½” tear and folded chip along upper rear cover edge.  Edge and corner wear.  In mylar.

Notes: Bolton retraced the entire route of the Dominguez-Escalante expedition of 1776, some portions several times, sometimes on foot, sometimes by horse or mule.  Atanasio Dominguez was the nominal leader of the expedition, but Silvestre Escalante gets credit for his journal, .  The expedition’s goal was to find an overland route from Santa Fe to Monterey, California, but that was a bust.  The two friars returned to Santa Fe safely.  There are two maps enclosed in a pocket at the rear–a reproduction of the expedition’s original map (in color, in Spanish), and Bolton’s “modern” map.  Narrative history.
