Condition: Book: Fair. Binding tight. No tears, folds. Bookstore stamp on bottom corner ffep. Pages 67-72 have a bump on the bottom edge, with an approx. 1/4″ chip on page 67-68, diminishes through 69-72. There’s another smaller bump on pages 223-235, very small indentation on the bottom edge of those pages. Pages 13-24 have an approx. 1½”-2″ bend on the lower corner, with an approx. 1/4″ tear on recto edge of pages 13-14. Some foxing to upper text block. Frontispiece photo tipped in. Some smudging to bottom text block. Dust Jacket: Fair. NOT price clipped. Numerous chips and tears along upper edges, front and rear. Rear bottom edge worn. All corners worn. Now in mylar.
Notes: The “Historical Introduction” alone is worth the price of admission. The author Dominguez is the Dominguez of the eponymous expedition with Escalante. Includes biographical lists of Franciscans and settlers mentioned by Dominguez. Architectural drawings, Spanish maps. Dominguez was too honest in his reports to his superiors, and spent his remaining pastoral career in obscure frontier posts.
