Publisher: University of Utah Press
Pub Date: 2000
Binding: Paperback
Condition: Fair. Binding tight. No tears, bends or folds. Remainder mark to bottom text block. Very light edge and corner wear. Appears unused.
Notes: Essentially a place name book, arranged by state (Arizona, New Mexico, Utah), and then alphabetically within. The bennie of the volume is the Index. You want to find “Wildcat Guts” or “Lululongturkui” or “Mexican Cry Mesa”, check the Index. Includes a history of the Navajo (10,000 B.C. to the present (as of 2000), the role of mythology in Navajo place names, and a list of trading posts. A Navajo pronunciation guide would have been helpful, but that’s a small quibble. Again, this is one of those books you start looking for something and end up having spent 30 minutes going from name to name, place to place.
