Notes: “This book deals with the State of Arizona only.  Do not regard it as a series of disconnected sketches.  It is a connected whole, beginning with prehistoric man in the cliffs of Northern Arizona, and on the desert in Southern Arizona.  It then takes up the coming of the first white man, the Spanish missionaries, and the Conquistadores, which led to the discovery of the Grand Canyon.  The other scenic wonders are then given you to enjoy, and we swing to the Apache Trail, the work of modern man at Roosevelt Dam, and give you a glimpse of the Arizona of to-day.”  (From the Preface)  W.J. Sims, who wrote the gift inscription, is the author of a blurb on the front flap.  The population of Arizona when this was published was approximately 425,000 people, with Phoenix at approximately 48,000 (based on the 1930 census).  Total Arizona population mid-2024 approximately 7.5 million.  Very much a product of its time.
