Condition:  2 copies.  Copy 1 (LC): Fair.  Stapled binding tight.  No tears, folds.  Previous owner’s name stamped on upper front cover corner, stamped over another previous owner’s name written in pencil.  Lower front cover corner has an approx. 1/8″ bend.  Foxing to front cover recto edge.  Edge and corner wear.  Copy 2 (LC): Fair.  Stapled binding tight.  No tears, folds.  Previous owner’s signature on upper front cover corner.  Lower front cover corner has an approx. 1″ bend, extends through entire volume (probably dropped).  Slight creasing to upper front cover corner at spine head and to lower front cover corner at spine foot.  Edge and corner wear.

Notes:  Pamphlet.   University of Arizona Bulletin Vol. VIII, No. 4, October 1, 1937.  Physical Science Bulletin No. 1.  This bulletin is the speech Douglass, an astronomer, gave to an AAAS meeting in June, 1937.  “The writer’s first thought that these rings could be turned to some special purpose came in 1901 when seven years’ residence in the dry country in and around the pine and juniper forests of northern Arizona had impressed up him the vital dependence of these trees upon each year’s precipitation; and since in a general way it is the sun’s heat that evaporates the ocean water and causes winds to bring that water over the continents to fall as rain, it seemed possible or even likely that we would find in the variation of ring thickness some traces of variation in the sun, perhaps some indications of the eleven year sunspot cycle.” (Page 6)  Copy 1 from the library of E.T.
