Notes: Pamphlet.   You would think that the giant sequoias would be the ideal trees to study for long-term (centuries) precipitation patterns, but you’d be wrong.  Tree rings from Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir are much more reliable indicators of water availability, wider rings indicating wet years, narrow rings indicating drought.  Schulman, an assistant to A.E. Douglass, established that the long-lived conifers of southern California were, in fact, “highly sensitive” to precipitation variability, giving Douglass’s theories their solid foundation, and helping establish dendrochronology as a reliable dating tool.  From the library of the late archaeologist John Otis Brew, his signature on cover.  VERY RARE.  No other copies available for sale.
