Notes: Viking Fund Publications in Anthropology Number Twenty-Eight.  Subscribers edition (Current Anthropology for the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, Inc.).  At the time this was written (1960) all the math was probably done by hand, using slide rules for some computations.  Now it’s all calculators and computers.  The use of quantitative analysis on various materials–metal, ceramics, soils, cloth, skeletal, biological.  How many, how much, how big, how small, how old–and you thought it was all just digging in the dirt!  This copy from the library of the late archaeologist Alden Hayes (1916-1998).
