Notes: 2 volume set. Prior to the “construction” of a new bombing range and scoring tower on the northern area of Fort Bliss, archaeological work was conducted on a series of ancient burn pits. “The archaeological work focused on testing and complete excavation of 68 burned rock features exposed on the surface of eight prehistoric sites. The surface artifacts were mapped and collected. Feature documentation and subsequent laboratory analyses focused on the burned rocks and interpretations of feature and rock functions. With the aid of new analyses directed towards the burned rocks and associated feature matrix, different heating and cooking functions are postulated. These features were documented to have been sporadically used over the last 3,000 years during the Late Archaic, the Formative, and into the Historic period.” (From the Abstract). Volume 1 covers the testing of four prehistoric sites and the mitigation of six prehistoric and one historic site. Volume 2 covers Appendices. VERY RARE. No other copies available for sale, and held in only 3 libraries. SOLD AS A SET ONLY.
