Notes: Pamphlet.  University of Arizona Bulletin Vol. XXII, No. 4, October, 1951.  Laboratory Bulletin of Tree-Ring Research No. 5.  “The first prehistoric dating by the tree-ring method was done on a few small fragments of badly weathered ponderosa pine wood found by Mr. Lyndon L. Hargrave in the Jeddito ruin of Kawaikuh in the summer of 1928.  The dates on these fragments seemed to be in the late 1300’s.  They were later entirely confirmed by fine specimens unearthed by E.H. Morris in October of that year…Naturally the need was soon apparent for more and more precision in determining the exact spot in which a beam or charcoal fragment was found.  Experienced workers like Morris at Aztec and Judd at Pueblo Bonito secured their specimens from recorded rooms.  The most satisfactory procedure placed a skilled dendrochronologist at the ruin during its excavation and thus the most perfect picture was obtained of the original prehistoric construction.”  (From the Foreword, by A.E. Douglass).  Copy 2 from the library of the late archaeologist John Otis Brew, his signature on cover.
