Condition: Fair.  Binding tight.  No marks, tears, folds.  One approx. 4″ crease at front cover recto edge.  Lower front cover edge has a number of small dings, giving it a rough edge feel.  Upper rear cover corner has an approx. 1/8″ bend, extends to last couple of pages.  Some edge and corner wear.

Notes: Reprint of a 1968 reprint of Memoir Number 69, American Anthropologist, Vol. 50, July, 1948, No. 3, Part 2.  Taylor’s revised doctoral dissertation.  A once-in-a-generational critique of the “science” of archaeology–essentially (at the time) they were just digging, listing, and cataloguing.  Taylor argued for a “conjunctive approach”, i.e. using environment and climate, geography, physical, statistical, ethnographic, and historical data as well as traditional digging to form a complete analysis of past lives and cultures.   Probably most useful as a graduate level text.
