Notes: Originally published in London in 1829.  Hardy was a Royal Navy officer Hardy commissioned by the “General Pearl and Coral Fishery Association of London” to search for pearls in the Gulf of California, from 1825 until 1828.  In exploring the Colorado River delta he determined a small river served as the overflow channel of the ancient Lake Cahuilla, draining into the Colorado.  That small river was named for Hardy.
