Notes: For the purposes of this book, the “High Plains” are primarily eastern Colorado, eastern New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle (including the Llano Estacado, and extending almost as far south as the Pecos River), a portion of Nebraska, and a very small portion of Wyoming.  The “archaeology of landscape”.  Places like the Hudson-Meng site in northern Nebraska, the Purgatoire Basin in eastern Colorado (home to a number of sites examined here), the southeastern corner of Colorado and northeastern New Mexico, and the Llano Estacado of eastern New Mexico and west Texas.  Low population, low-impact land use.
