The most surprising conclusion suggested by the pollen data was that a boreal forest or woodland of pine and spruce was present on the Southern High Plains as far south as Monahans, Texas, during a maximum of cool moist conditions in the Late Pleistocene. This period of cool, moist climate and indicated boreal forest was named the Thoka Pluvial and dated by radiocarbon analysis between 21,000 and 14,000 B.C. or approximately contemporary with the Cary maximum of glacial advance in central North America.” (From the Preface)
