Description
Author: Cather, Willa (1873-1947)
Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf
Pub Date: 1936 (First edition)
Binding: Hardcover
Condition: Fair. Binding tight. No tears, bend or folds. Without dust jacket. Previous owner’s bookplate on front pastedown. Some light edge and corner wear. Deckled edges.
Notes: Cather’s first book of essays. The title refers to “anyone under forty won’t understand what I’m writing about.” (There’s that generation gap thing again–they tell it like it is, but it’s all wrong). Six essays, on writers, writing, publishing, people she enjoyed, including one of her meetings with the niece of Gustave Flaubert. Strangely, it reminded me most of Hemingway’s posthumous “A Moveable Feast”, though a tad bit more florid. Charming. Incredibly readable.
