Parras de la Fuente is a city in the lower portion of Coahuila, 400+ years old. In the 1980s, Father Agustin Churruca began assembling information on the history of Parras, particularly the early history of Parras and southwestern Coahuila in the Spanish colonial period. Emphasis on the Jesuit contributions, information on Indian populations, and an examination of the Spanish policy of latifundio–the granting of large estates–which led to control of large areas of land and water, and subjected the natives to slavery.
