Notes: De la Torre (about 1507-?) arrived in New Spain about 1535. He claimed to be a doctor, a graduate of the University of Padua. You’re in a new country, who’s going to check your credentials? De la Torre was a fabulist, albeit a really good one, good enough to be promoted, in his later years, to the highest medical office in New Spain. A minor character in the early history of the conquistadors. The first 5 of the 7 Appendices are in Spanish, not translated.
