Notes: In the early 1950s, the Bureau of Reclamation wanted to build a series of dams along the Colorado River, including IN the Grand Canyon. Other dams were proposed along the Green and Yampa Rivers that would have flooded Echo Canyon (including parts of Dinosaur National Monument, as eventually happened in Glen Canyon. This book, and the accompanying pamphlet (produced by the Trustees for Conservation, an environmental organization formed in 1954, to oppose the construction of the Echo Park Dam. Members included Ansel Adams, David Brower, Wallace Stegner, and Alfred A. Knopf, among others). Color and black and white photography. Essays by Stegner, geologist Eliot Blackwelder, noted river-runner Otis “Dock” Marston, and Bob Lister, among others.
