Notes: Albeit almost 50 years old, the first chapter “The Practice of Archaeology: A Principle and Some Problems” should serve as a bible for anyone wanting to become an archaeologist. “Archeology, the recovery and study of the past, thus is a proper concern of everyone. It follows that no individual may act in a manner such that the public right to knowledge of the past is unduly endangered or destroyed.” (Pg. 5). The bulk of the book regards the status of public support for archeology, arranged by state, with examples of state (sorry, no Puerto Rico) and local archeological legislation, as well as significant Federal archeological legislation.
