Notes: Papers of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology Volume 72.  “Since so much of the survey occurred in the Gila River drainage, the entire project was designated the Upper Gila Expedition of the Peabody Museum.  This has produced a geographic anomaly since the sites excavated by McGimsey and described by him in this report all lie within the drainage pattern of the Little Colorado River…The sites are within a small area a few miles north of Quemado, in Catron County, New Mexico on the way to Adams Diggings, Fence Lake, and Atarque.” (From the Foreword).  Excavations begun in 1949, continued through 1954, with a break in 1952.  Watson Smith was the field director for most of that period.  Unnamed, but numbered, sites.
