Notes:  I was very impressed by this volume, although it’s a tad dated.   Newcomb covers nine different cultures–Southeastern Farmers, Northeastern Hunter-Farmers, Plains Bison Hunters, Sub-Arctic Hunters and Fishermen, Desert Gatherers, Southwestern Farmers, Pleatau Fishermen-Gatherers, California Gatherers, and Northwest Coast Fishermen.  Origins, development, biology, nature, population, language, history, environment.  The southwestern section also covers a portion of northern Mexico.  Lots of information, nicely presented.  Range maps for each culture.  Probably designed as an Intro level text in Anthropology.
