Notes: Home to the present-day Burning Man “community” (though this was published long before BM started) the Black Rock desert was, 70,000 years ago, Lake Lahontan, and was (probably) occupied by humans approximately 9700 years ago. Now the Black Rock is among the largest deserts in the world. More a western history and tourist guide than geologic history. If the people who run Burning Man were smart they’d buy the rights to this book and print it themselves.
