Notes:  Pamphlet.  Exhibit catalog, 32 pages.  “…a view of 19th century Bering Sea Eskimo life, its prehistoric roots, and its modern legacy.” (page 3)  Objects collected by Edward W. Nelson, a naturalist sent by the Army to the Alaskan frontier in 1877.  Nelson collected mammals, birds, fish, and insects, and wrote scientific works on Alaskan natural history.  Photos of masks, weapons, kayaks, tools.  The Smithsonian also produced a full-size book of the exhibition, also entitled Inua: Spirit World of the Bering Sea Eskimo.
