Notes: Arizona State Museum Contribution to Highway Salvage Archaeology in Arizona Number 60.  “The site consists of two major components: an early phase typified by pit house architecture, and a later phase during which aboveground structures were built.  Finally, an intermittent reoccupation is demonstrated by surface hearths of protohistoric times.”  (From the Abstract).  “The Gila Butte, Santa Cruz, and early Sacaton phases are represented at Second Canyon….the site was unoccupied from the abrupt departure of the Salado at about A.D. 1400 until the present.”  (ibid.).  This is Franklin’s revised doctoral dissertation.
