Notes: Pueblo Grande Museum Anthropological Papers No. 1. Volume 1 of a 6 volume set. Pueblo Grande has a long history of being researched, beginning with Bandelier in 1883, Cushing and the Hemenway Expedition between 1886-1888, Hayden and the CCC between 1936-1940, Al Schroeder and the WPA between 1938-1940, Woodbury’s canal study in 1959, through the NPS/Soil Systems stabilizations in the late 1980s. Because it sits in the middle of Phoenix, its preservation was always going to be in question. Hayden’s Foreword is worth the price of admission alone. Does anybody else hear Joni Mitchell singing “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot”?
