Notes: Pamphlet. Museum of New Mexico Research Records No. 2. Cultural resource survey along approximately 4800 miles of New Mexico’s major highways and roads. The survey was limited to 1000 feet on either side of the roads, with the idea that that amount of space would be enough for any major road reconstruction/realignment/upgrade. “In all, 696 archaeological and historical sites were recorded. They range in size from small camp sites to impressive pueblos containing upwards of 500 rooms. The oldest sites discovered date ten to fifteen thousand years ago and represent camping sites of early nomadic hunters. The most recent sites were Anglo and Spanish-American settlements of the later 1800’s.” (Page 9). No surveys conducted within city limits. Since this pamphlet is almost 60 years old I think it would probably best serve as a baseline for any highway salvage archaeology projects. RARE.
