Notes:  Center for Archaeological Research, Archaeological Survey Report, No. 300.  3 volume set.  SOLD AS A SET ONLY.  The Twin Buttes Dam had a seepage problem that required the Bureau of Reclamation to “construct” several borrow pits, to mine the rock to repair the dam.  Rather than just survey the borrow pits, the BoR expanded  the survey to include the entire area around the reservoir.  “CAR recorded 179 new archaeological sites, and revisited 21 previously recorded sites, within the reservoir.  On these 199 sites, 19 historic components were identified, reflecting primarily farming and ranching activities.  The prehistoric sites reflect occupation from the early Paleoindian period through the Late Prehistoric period.”  (From the Abstract)   Volume 1 deals with the project overview, environment, geoarchaeology, previous research, data analysis and survey results and analysis.  Volume 2 is the complete Appendix A: Prehistoric Site Descriptions and Summary.  Volume 3 contains Appendices B through K–Excavations summary, surface observations, dating, soil-stratigraphy data, project forms and previous land ownership, among others.  Tom Green County sits almost dead center Texas, with the largest community being San Angelo.
