Notes: Museum of New Mexico Research Records No. 4.  Prior to the development of the Navajo Indian Irrigation Project, in 1963 and 1964, a reconnaissance of more than 110,000 acres in northwest New Mexico was conducted.  1697 sites were recorded, with the bulk of them in the Chuska Valley, between the Chaco River and the Arizona/New Mexico border.  The culture of the Chuska Valley was found to be “moderately to markedly” different from the adjacent Mesa Verde, Kayenta and Chaco-Puerco regions.
