Notes: “The Turquoise Trail”, also known as North-14 (though NOT as the back road to Santa Fe) got its name from the turquoise mines in the area, though why it didn’t get named “The Golden Trail” (for the gold mines) or “The Coal Trail” (for the coal mines) is beyond me. This area was among the earliest mining centers in the country, dating back to prehistoric times. Picturesque, winding, mountainous. Cedar Crest, Sandia Park, Golden, Madrid, Cerrillos. It’s worth taking your out-of-town friends through once. Lots of historic period photographs.
