Notes: No. 116, Año XV. Journal. Periodical. Veracruz (originally Vera Cruz, or True Cross) is Mexico’s largest port, and one of the oldest cities in Mexico. Cortes landed in the general area there in 1519, and the legend is that he burned his ships so there would be no going back to Cuba (the ships were probably scuttled rather than burned). The American army has invaded Veracruz twice (in 1847 and 1914), Spain once, and the French once. The volume is primarily art and photographs, mostly black-and-white but a few color, with the text in Spanish, English, French and German.
