Description

Author: Winship, George Parker (1871-1952)

Publisher: Smithsonian Institution

Pub Date: 1896

Binding: Paperback

Condition: Fair to Good.  This volume was excised from a copy of Part 1 of the 14th Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology, 1892-1893 that was falling apart.  I had this section (pp. 331-637) rebound in paperback.  The binding is tight.  No marks, tears, bends or folds.  Some foxing to all text blocks.

Notes:  Originally published in 1896, the English portions of this text were republished by A.S. Barnes in 1904, under the title “The Journey of Coronado, 1540-1542.”  The “Historical Introduction” begins in 1527,  with Cabeza de Vaca and continues through 1547, with the Villalobos crossing of the Pacific.  About half of the volume is in Spanish–“The Narrative of Castañeda”, with the English translation following.  Another small section (pp. 566-571) in Spanish–“Relacion postrera de Sivola” with the English translation following.  Also includes “A list of works useful to the student of the Coronado expedition.”
