Notes: Before there was an Ansel Adams or a Laura Gilpin, there was Adam Vroman.  He came to California with his wife, hoping the climate would help her heal.  She died within 2 years.  He opened Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena–gifted to his employees in 1916, and still in operation today.  The 9″ x 12″size of the volume works really well for Vroman’s 127 photos of landscapes, architecture (interiors and exteriors), Native Americans (Acoma, Hopi, Zuni, Navajo), and several photos taken east of the Mississippi.  Excellent reproduction, but then the photos themselves are classics.  For a biography of Vroman and the Pasadena bookstore see https://vromansbookstore.com/about-vromans
