Notes: Prescott was the first capital of Arizona Territory. Gold was found in the Prescott area in 1863, and the town was founded near Fort Whipple, to secure Arizona’s mineral resources for the Union during the Civil War. It was named as the capital in 1864. lost the title to Tucson in 1867, regained the title in 1877, but lost it again in 1889. To Phoenix.
