Notes:  Two parallel narratives–the rise and fall of the Comanches, arguably the most powerful Indian tribe in American history (the Sioux, Apache, Iriquois among others may disagree)–and the story of Cynthia Ann Parker, kidnapped by the Comanches as 9 year old, and her son, Quanah Parker, the last chief of the Comanches.  Their territory covered most of Texas and Oklahoma, the Llano Estacado of eastern New Mexico, into Kansas and as far north as the Platte River of Nebraska.  The Comanches fought the Mexicans, the French, Anglo settlers, only to be forced into submission with the decimation of their principal food source, the buffalo.  BIG history.  Excellent read.
