Notes: Pamphlet.  Offprint.  Reprinted from American Antiquity, Volume 9, No. 4, April 1944.  Adolph Bandelier, in The Delight Makers, stated that smoking among the prehistoric pueblos was “not a relish but exclusively a sacrifice.” (Dodd Mead, 1890, pp 49-50),  that tobacco was unknown to the pueblos and “red willow” bark was the only thing used for smoking.  That “red willow” reference seems suspect to me, primarily because of the range of the tree (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salix_laevigata ).  This is a 6 page pamphlet, with the center page glued in.  VERY RARE.  NO copies available for sale.
