Notes: Biography cum archaeological history.  Hattie Cosgrove and her husband Burt owned a ranch in southwest New Mexico where they first began excavating Mimbres artifacts.  When they were introduced to A.V. Kidder in 1921, Kidder was so impressed with their knowledge and their archaeological rigor that he hired them to work on the Peabody Expedition’s Swarts Ruin excavation near their ranch.  Over the 3 year period of the excavation (1924-1927) the Cosgroves excavated and catalogued more than 10,000 Mimbres artifacts.  After her husband died she continued with her archaeological work, most notably at Awatovi.  She is well-known for her incredibly accurate illustrations of Mimbres pottery.
