Upper rear cover edge at spine head missing an approx. 1″ triangular chip. Lower rear cover corner missing an approx. 1/8″ chip. Page 103/104 has been pasted in at some point, with the bottom edge protruding from text block, now worn and chipped. Includes three fold-outs. Illustrated with color and black-and-white plates. The Village of the Great Kivas is located on the north side of the Nutria Valley at the mouth of Red Paint Canyon, about 17 miles northeast of Zuni Pueblo. The site exhibits characteristics of prehistoric occupancy from the 11th into the 13th century A.D. Peoples of a southern Mogollon tradition lived beside or among peoples of the northern Anasazi tradition. Situated at the base of a high cliff — decorated with many petroglyphs and a few pictographs — the ruins consist of three separate house blocks, associated trash areas, and two great kivas, covering about three and a half acres.
