Notes: This is a history of corn. I’d call this a ” upper level mid-school textbook.” It’s not simplistic–the writers make no assumptions about reading levels–but it is an easy read, and good with the facts (Bat Cave, MacNeish, etc.). Elting (Mary Elting Folsom) and her husband Franklin Folsom (1907-1995) had a dedicated career writing and editing children’s books. Michael Folsom was their son.
