Notes: COAS Monograph No. 2. More a booklet than a pamphlet. Extracted from Bussey’s doctoral dissertation of 1972. Excavation of three sites between Cliff and Riverside, Grant County, New Mexico. Salvage archaeology. About half of the Lee Village site had already been surveyed by the Highway Department by the time of the excavations in 1965. Lee Village sits on a terrace overlooking the Gila River. A Civil War period military site also occupies a portion of the hill. At the end of the project, 33 pit houses had been excavated, with a number of others either left alone or partially excavated. About 9,000 sherds were excavated, indicating the site had been occupied during the Cameron Creek phase of the Mogollon 4 Period.
