Condition: Fair.  Binding (not stapled!) tight.  No tears, bends, folds.  First previous owner’s signature on upper front cover corner.   The number “#5238” is hand-written on the bottom edge of page 3, with a pencil note in the gutter “14 June 91, A. Schroeder gift”.   Very light edge and corner wear.

Notes:  Pamphlet.  Offprint.  At least two previous owners.  Probably a speech given by Dutton to the International Congress of Americanists at the 36th Annual Conference in Seville, Spain, in 1994, then published in 1966, in papers of the Congreso Internacional de Americanistas (Volume 1, pages 287-300).  From the library of the late archaeologist Al Schroeder (first owner), his signature on upper front cover corner.    “During the same period that the Mesa Verde province was being abandoned, notable increases in population were taking place in the region around Santa Fe, New Mexico, in the upper reaches of the Rio Grande drainage and tributary streams.  Here, small, scattered settlements in valley, or foothill or low terrace locations, were occupied during the 1100’s and early 1200’s, by people who lived in pithouses and built contemporary aboveground structures.”  (Page 1).  VERY RARE.  No other copies available.
