Notes: Arizona State Museum Archaeological Series 183.  A joint biography of Al and Alice Lancaster.  Al Lancaster (1894-1992).  Alice Lancaster (1901-1993).  It’s hard to call someone an “amateur archaeologist” when they spent 70 years working with people like Alfred Kidder, John Otis Brew, Emil Haury, Paul Martin, Bob Lister, and Earl Morris, and at sites like Alkali Ridge, Awatovi, Mesa Verde, Chaco, Lowry and Aztec Ruins.  Al Lancaster falls into the same group of people like Watson Smith and Hattie and Bert Cosgrove, amateurs who loved archaeology and found a way to make a career of it.
