Notes:  Pamphlet.  Offprint.  Originally published in American Antiquity, Volume 29, No. 4, April, 1964.  Las Madres, a site in the Galisteo Basin south of Santa Fe, yielded ceramics indicating several different cultures.  “It was my hope that features other than pottery might be found to indicate San Juan influence.  However, except for certain minor traits which could have come with one or more individuals from, or people possessed of things from, the San Juan region, no Mesa Verde traits were identified.  Tree-ring dates extend from about A.D. 1250 to nearly 1400 and cluster around 1300 in the area where we worked extensively.”  (Page 450).  From the library of the late archaeologist John Otis Brew, his signature.
